The Tech Starters Mentor: Bill "Ches" Cheswick

December 8, 2017

Bill "Ches" Cheswick had a love of science since grade school and his teachers nurtured his passion.  He retired from Bell Labs as a computer security and network researcher, where he co-created one of the world's first network firewalls, from which came his groundbreaking book "Firewalls and Internet Security".  Bill is a mentor for The Mentor Project's The Tech Starters and believes our country needs "old farts" like him to interact with and teach elementary school-age kids science.

The Mentor Project documents the role of mentoring and its powerful impact not only on the mentees but the mentor. During my research what I discovered was astonishing. After nearly45 in-depth interviews all the participants unanimously said being a mentor changed their life. It is now my mission to let others know the value and benefits mentors receive from giving back."
